Step 1

Prep Your Coir

Place one coir disk in your first dish and add 1.5 to 2 cups of water. Let it soak until fully expanded and soft (about 1-2 minutes). Spread evenly across the dish. The coir should be thoroughly moist and easy to work with, but not sitting in a puddle of excess water.

Step 2

Plant Your Seeds

Sprinkle one full seed packet evenly across the surface of the moistened coir. Even coverage gives you lush, full microgreens.

Step 3

Cover for Germination

Place your second dish on top (right side up) to block all light. This darkness is essential for germination. A small gap between dishes is expected for air flow. Seeds will sprout in a few days depending on temperature and variety.

Step 4

Uncover and Grow

When seeds have germinated and start to grow with small white fuzzy roots visible (that's healthy root hair, not mold—completely normal!), remove the top dish. Find a spot for them. They're designed to fit most window sills but beautiful as a centerpiece on an island or table. Wherever you choose, they do better in an area with some natural light. If greens droop before you're ready to harvest, water as needed. Keep the coir moist but not waterlogged. Should typically need water every 3-4 days or once in a 7-10 day cycle.

Step 5

Continuous Cycle

While your first dish is growing, prepare your second dish following steps 1-3. Use the dish with growing greens as the blackout cover for the newly planted dish. This staggered system gives you fresh microgreens on repeat. Wash dishes between growing cycles (they're dishwasher safe).

Step 6

Harvest

When your microgreens reach 2-3 inches tall with vibrant green color—typically 7-12 days from planting—use clean scissors to cut just above the coir and roots. Enjoy immediately, or store on a paper towel in an airtight container or ziplock bag in the refrigerator. If you prefer, you can leave them growing on your table or island as a centerpiece and bring scissors during meals to trim to your desire and eat fresh from the table.
